Non-free artwork - Black Sabbath
[edit]Heya, thanks for being eagle-eyed, but I assumed surely that Black Sabbath Boards.jpg would pass by Wikipedia's Non-free Content Policy. The "no free equivalent" doesn't apply here, as I took the photgraph myself. "Respect for commercial opportunities" is acknowledged here, as the photo doesn't impact the commercial viability of the original work. If the photo were closer, more centred with clearly legible text on the descriptions of each photo, or multiple photos showing all of the boards, as theres a lot of them (which would also break the third rule, "Minimal usage") then I would 100% understand, but the photo's are surely not high enough resolution to impact the artwork. Let me know if ive misunderstood anything, but as car as I can tell the photo falls completely within the non-free image policies.
I have replied on both this page and the image page, wasnt sure where was best, so feel free to ignore one. Jpdfive (talk) 20:06, 30 July 2025 (UTC)
- That's a Wikipedia policy; this is Wikimedia Commons, and it does not apply here.
- By all means upload the image at Wikipedia, with that non-free rationale. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 20:19, 30 July 2025 (UTC)
- Got it. I didnt realise tere was a distinction and thought there would be crossover. Ta very much Jpdfive (talk) 20:31, 30 July 2025 (UTC)
inat2commons
[edit]Hi Andy, you probably missed the discussion about the code update and the ban on the developer - so you need to copy the latest code to your subpage and do something along the lines of
if (mw.config.get('wgNamespaceNumber') === 6 && /SVG/i.test(mw.config.get('wgTitle').slice(-3))) importScript('User:Perhelion/simpleSVGcheck.js'); mw.loader.load('//commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Shyamal/inat2commons.js&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript');

Question
[edit]Hi. Am I misremembering or wasn't there a discussion awhile back about getting rid of the "cultural heritage monuments in Russia by id" categories that you filed a bot request related to or was that something else? --Adamant1 (talk) 04:43, 27 August 2025 (UTC)
- Just an FYI since you didn't answer the question but I know it's something your interested in since you started the original conversation about it on the Village Pump but you might want to look over Template talk:Cultural Heritage Russia#Update on technical categories. Thanks. --Adamant1 (talk) 21:22, 27 August 2025 (UTC)
- Sorry, I missed your earlier post; that was Commons:Bots/Work requests/Archive 17#Monuments database in Russia.
- I'll take a look at the new discussion. Thank you. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 21:36, 27 August 2025 (UTC)
Guidance needed to amend text entered in a template
[edit]Hello Andy, Would you be able to point me to a forum or appropriately experienced editor? I would like to globally edit some of the standard entered text in 1346 image files in the category "Uploaded by Htsa", which were all uploaded in an edit-athon more than 5 years ago (and subsequently the organizers have been unresponsive). They contain typos, coding errors and an incorrect licence. I am not seeking to change the template itself.
Two examples of the things I would like to clear up: the licence, currently a public domain declaration, needs to be a copyright-expired (age) statement. Another -- a fairly trivial typo but there are about 8 of them: against "Source" is the typo "The History Trust of South Australian...", the last word of which should be "South Australia". These typos are in each of the 1346 files.
I am confident editing and coding articles, but my knowledge of changing in bulk is zero. So although this does not involve editing a template itself, I thought that you might be able to nudge me in the right direction so I can be guided/checked by an appropriately experienced editor. - There are a trio of possible approaches:
- ask at Commons:Bots/Work requests
- use AutoWikiBrowser
- use VisualFileChange.js
- LMK if you want to try one of the latter pair and I will talk you through it. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 12:12, 10 September 2025 (UTC)
